Specialists warn that the symptoms of a heart attack can sometimes be confused with those of a panic attack. In a patient presenting with chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations, cardiac investigations revealed an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Uz. Dr. Turgay Burucu drew attention to the significance of such cases, emphasising that the symptoms of a panic attack and a heart attack can appear similar, but that emergency cardiac evaluation saves lives. “Every instance of chest pain and shortness of breath should be taken seriously — an ECG should be performed without delay and the patient should be assessed by a cardiologist,” he said.
