Uz. Dr. Turgay Burucu made important statements about the precautions heart patients should observe while fasting during Ramadan. Dr. Burucu emphasised that individuals with chronic heart conditions such as heart failure, hypertension and arrhythmia should not fast without consulting their physician.

Noting that prolonged fasting can have adverse effects on blood pressure and heart rhythm, Dr. Burucu reminded patients that medications are taken around mealtimes and that medication schedules may need to be reorganised during Ramadan. He drew attention to the importance of adequate fluid intake and balanced nutrition between suhoor and iftar.
